The Goddess of the Rainbow is a mixed media animation, fusing 2D digital animation and stop motion embroidery. The animation follows the story of the Greek goddess Iris, messenger of the gods and the keeper of the rainbow. She finds the graves of these dead women with purple irises marked on top of them, and walks to lead them to the Elysian Fields. In Greek mythology, these purple irises were planted by the Greeks to honour the dead women and to mark them for Iris.
The digital aspect of this short animation employed a hand drawn sequence of Iris with a rainbow bokeh overlay to indicate her status as a goddess of the rainbow. The traditional media used were cloth, thread, as well as washi tape for the purple iris flower. As the camera pans to the right as the goddess walks, the ground (colour scheme) gets less colourful and more chaotic, to transition to the cemetery.
Digital animation done in Clip Studio Paint and composited using Adobe After Effects.
